TikTok is suing the US government

In a submission TikTok’s brief filed Tuesday said Congress “took the unprecedented step of specifically singling out and banning TikTok” and called the move “unconstitutional.” TikTok argues that a forced sale of the app is not possible and that the law would “force a shutdown” by January 19, 2025.

“For the first time in history, Congress has enacted legislation placing a single, designated speech platform under a permanent, nationwide ban and banning every American from participating in a unique online community of more than 1 billion people worldwide.”

“There is no doubt: The law will force a shutdown of TikTok by January 19, 2025, silencing the 170 million Americans who use the platform to communicate in ways not possible anywhere else,” it said in the lawsuit.
