MLB and Nike announce that the 2025 jerseys will have larger jersey lettering and tailored pants

MLB and Nike announced Friday that Major League Baseball uniforms will have larger lettering on the back of the jerseys and that all players will be able to customize their pants starting in 2025.

MLB and Nike said the uniform adjustments will be made after discussions with players, clubs and equipment managers.

Some players in spring training complained about the fit and appearance. The white shorts some teams wear are so see-through that tucked-in jersey tops are clearly visible.

“Feedback from players and clubs is extremely important to us,” commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “Together with Nike, we have listened to our players and are therefore addressing their concerns.”

Nike is also working on a solution to address the slight color differences between the jerseys and pants on some gray road uniforms, as well as discoloration caused by sweat. Once the solution is finalized, customized gray uniforms will be worn as early as the second half of this season.

“We will continue to work with Nike to make adjustments with the goal of delivering a jersey that looks good and helps MLB players perform their best,” Manfred said.

The jersey changes were originally detailed in a memo the players’ association distributed to players on Sunday.

The uniforms are manufactured by Fanatics, with specifications set by MLB and Nike.
