Dubai, UAE, 25 March 2024 – The digital landscape of the Middle East and Africa (MEA) received a significant boost as Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence arm of Alibaba Group, started the MEA region’s first Alibaba Cloud Academy Training Center. Situated in the heart of Dubai Internet City, a bustling global tech ecosystem under the umbrella of TECOM Group PJSC, this center stands poised to revolutionize digital competency in the region.

With a vision to empower its ecosystem partners and customers, Alibaba Cloud has crafted this center as a hub for enhancing digital skills through a variety of training, workshops, and certifications. Nestled within Dubai Internet City’s vibrant community, which already hosts over 3,500 customers ranging from Fortune 500s to start-ups, the training center is strategically positioned to drive regional digital transformation.

In a strategic move aimed at enriching the curriculum, Alibaba Cloud has joined forces with Aladdin Cyber Security, a renowned provider of security services and solutions. Together, they plan to conduct monthly training and enablement programs covering cutting-edge technologies such as AI, database management, and elastic computing. These initiatives underscore Alibaba Cloud’s commitment to keeping its partners and customers abreast of the latest technological advancements, fostering a culture of innovation and growth.

The objectives of this pioneering training program resonate deeply with the broader economic aspirations of the region. Aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE Centennial 2071’s vision for a knowledge-based economy, the center strives to nurture a digitally savvy workforce capable of propelling the region towards unprecedented growth and prosperity.

Eric Wan, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud Middle East, Turkey & Africa, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The launch of the training center showcases our commitment and continued investment into the MEA region to help businesses transform digitally and achieve long-term success. We’re dedicated to fostering growth alongside our local partners and customers by providing them with the latest cloud computing and AI technologies.”

Echoing this sentiment, Ammar Al Malik, Executive Vice President – Commercial at TECOM Group, emphasized the pivotal role of upskilling in driving economic progress. He remarked, “Digital transformation is the engine propelling global economic growth in the 21st century. By investing in upskilling and training talent on cutting-edge technologies, we can remain agile, innovative, and competitive.”

Looking ahead, Alibaba Cloud has set an ambitious target of training 5,000 individuals over the next five years in the MEA region. This endeavor builds upon the success of the Alibaba Cloud Academy program, which has already trained over 60,000 individuals worldwide since its inception in April 2023. Leveraging a blend of online and offline resources, including over 300 certification courses and 250 online hands-on labs, Alibaba Cloud remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing the next generation of digital leaders.

Alibaba Cloud’s foray into the MEA region dates back to 2016, where it has emerged as a trusted provider of cloud services to both private enterprises and public institutions. With a robust local ecosystem spanning various sectors, including banking, media, and web 3, Alibaba Cloud is primed to spearhead the region’s digital transformation journey.

As the curtains rise on the MEA region’s first Alibaba Cloud Academy Training Center, Dubai Internet City cements its status as a beacon of technological innovation and excellence.
